Hasselblad camera serial number decoder

Find out when your Hasselblad camera was made

This tool allows you to enter your Hasselblad camera's serial number and get details such as the model, year and place of manufacture. The serial number on a Hasselblad camera can be found on the inner face of the camera body (visible when you remove the film back). The two-letter code uses Victor Hasselblad's clever "VHPICTURES" cipher to encode the manufacturing year. This decoder covers Hasselblad cameras from the 1600F (1948) through to the 503CW (discontinued 2013), including the 500-series, 2000-series, EL-series, and Superwide models. For best results, also select your model from the dropdown (e.g., 500C/M, 503CW, SWC) which is engraved on the camera's top plate or front.

How to Find Your Serial Number

Camera Body: Remove the film back from your camera. The serial number is engraved on the inner face of the camera body, typically starting with 2 or 3 letters followed by numbers (e.g., RC123456 or 10EU45678).

Model Name: Look at the top plate or front of the camera for the engraved model designation (e.g., "500 C/M", "503 CW", "SWC").

Tip: For most accurate results, select your model from the dropdown. If you're not sure of the model, just enter the serial number to see all possible matches.
