The Roland serial number decoder
Find the date of any Roland equipment
Roland serial numbers are either 6 numbers, or 6 or 7 characters with 2 letters near the start. If you have a serial number with just one letter double check in case another character is actually a letter. The letter Z may look like a 2 and a zero may actually be the letter O. If you have any letters at all they will normally be in position 1 and 2 OR position 1 and 3. As Roland serial numbers repeated, to get the best chance of getting only one date returned it is best to enter your specific Roland model.
This tool will find the manufacture date of any Roland equipment. It works by decoding the date part of the serial number then my database of Roland manufacture dates will help to narrow it down. For instruments made for a long time or for devices that are not in my database you may be given multiple dates. This tool supports all Roland serial number formats (Pre 1989, 1989-2010, and 2010 to date).
For details of my Roland model database click here. This tool was originally built for vintage synths and drum machines but I have extended it to include all Roland gear including amplifiers and electric pianos. For the Roland Jazz Chorus amps the model number is in the format JC-120, eg. JC-120, JC-160, JC-60, JC-77, JC-80. V-drum models normally start with TD ( TD-20, TD-50 etc.). Roland V-Studio DAWs, Roland video equipment, Roland printers and Roland engraving machines should all work. For Boss products please use the Boss decoder as that has an extra Boss only format and has the Boss production dates. Some examples of Roland serial numbers :-
